Dyer County Court Clerk Minutes Dated September 2, 1850 |
Be it Remembered that a County Court was begun and held at the Court House in the Town of Dyersburg in and for the County of Dyer and State of Tennessee, on the first Monday (it being the Second day) of September in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty and the 75th year of American Independence. Present and holding said Court the Worshipful THOMAS J. CONNELL Esquire Chairman, SAMUEL McDAVID and ALEXANDER B. STALCUP Esquires quorum, ASA GRIFFIN, SAMUEL G. GILLESPIE, WILLIAM MILLER, BENJAMIN W. PERRY, JOSEPH N. PIERCE, ISAAC SAWYER, SAMUEL WALKER, HENRY P. STRAWN, THOMAS F. FIELDS and JOSEPH F. PETTIJOHN Esquires Justices of said Court WILLIAM A. DAWSON Sheriff of Dyer County and JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of this Court when and where, after Proclamation in the usual form, the following proceedings were had, towit:
Whereas the members of this Court have learned of the death of JOHN WYNNE Esquire, late Trustee of Dyer County and a member of this Court, and deeming this a suitable occasion to give expression to their feeling in view of the melancholy event; therefore Resolved by the Court, that the following Gentlemen be appointed a committee to draft resolutions expressive of the sense of the Court, viz. E. G. HILL, A. BENTON and F. G. SAMPSON who, after retiring a few minutes, presented the following Resolutions which were adopted by the Court, Towit: "Resolved, That the members of this Court do sincerely regret the death of their valued and esteemed fellow citizen, feeling assured that they have lost in this dispensation of Providence, one of their ablest advisers, and the community at large a warm, zealous and indefatigable friend. Resolved, That the members of the Court, one and all, entertain the highest opinion of the business qualifications of their lamented friend, and the highest respect for his many and distinguished virtues as a man, So forcibly and unostentatiously exhibited in both public and private life. Resolved, That they hereby tender to the widow and family of the deceased their condolence and unaffected sympathies in the sudden and painful bereavement. Resolved, That these Resolutions be spread upon the minutes of this Court and a copy thereof presented to the widow of the deceased." Signed E. G. HILL, A. BENTON, F. G. SAMPSON

This day CHARLOTTE FERGUSON (daughter of SALLY FERGUSON) was bound by this court unto HENRY W. BURROUGHS of this County, whereupon came the said BURROUGHS into open Court here and entered into a covenant as required by law for the maintenance &c of said girl.
