Dyer County Court Clerk Minutes

Dated May 6, 1850


Be it Remembered that a County Court was begun and held for the County of Dyer State of Tennessee at the Court House in the Town of Dyersburg on the First Monday in May it being the sixth day of said month in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty & in the 74th year of American Independence.

Present and holding said Court the Worshipfull THOMAS J. CONNELL Esquire Chairman and presiding Justices, A. B. STALCUP, CHRISTIAN S. COBB, SAML G. GILLESPIE, HENRY WYNNE, HENRY P. STRAWN Esquires Justices of said Court present JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of said Court & WILLIAM A. DAWSON Sheriff of said County when Court proceeded to business:

THOMAS J. T. WALKER, ast and obtained leave to Record his Stock Mark, which is a Smooth Crop & Split in the Right & Split in the left Ear.

ISAAC BUNNELL obtains leave to Record his Stock mark which is a Smooth Crop off of the left Ear.

Ordered by the court that JOEL PEAL be appointed overseer of that part of the Jackson Road commencing at the Seven mile post and work to the SAMSON SMITH Old place and that he have the following hands... THOMAS KNIGHT, FRANCIS MOORE, JAMES MOORE, WILLIAM J. CHANDLER, RICHARD H. CHANDLER, HENRY BAILEY, JOHN BAILEY, JOHN POWERS, JACOB POWERS, BRYANT FITZHUGH & THOMAS F. FITZHUGH & JAMES --HETON?...

On a Motion and appearing to the satisfaction of the court here that JOHN T. APPLEWHITE has departed this life intestate it is therefore ordered that WILLIAM H. APPLEWHITE be appointed Administrator of all singular the goods and Chattles Rights and credits of said deceased whereupon said W. H. APPLEWHITE came into open court here together with HENRY WYNNE his security and entered into and acknowledged Bond...

Ordered by the court that M. T. BARLOW be appointed overseer of that part of the Road commencing at the lake road east of THOMAS PACEs... and that he have the following hands... JOHN GAMMONS, JACKSON GAMMONS, WILLIAM BULL, [Blank] WINTERS, R. A. H. McCORKLE, JACOB TROUTs hands, JOHN REED, & M. C. SCOBY & hands...

On motion of SAMUEL G. GILLESPIE a member of this court, and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court that ALMYRA E. FREEMAN a Single Woman, was delivered of a Bastard Child in this county on the 6th day of March 1850 and it further appearing from the Oath of said ALMYRA that one THOMAS YANCEY who at present resides in Haywood County is charged with being the Father of said Bastard Child, and it further appearing that a Warrant has been Issued to Dyer County and not been executed it is therefore ordered by the court that the Clerk of this Court, Issue a capias to the Sheriff of Haywood County, requiring him to take the Body of the said THOMAS YANCY and bring him before this court at the next Term thereof to answer said charge &c.

This day R. H. McGAUGHEY & CHARLES P. CLARK prefered their Petition to this Court praying to be released from the security of ISAAC B. ALLEN as Guardian of the minor heirs of A. ALEXANDER, deceased.

It is therefore ordered by the Court that said I. B. ALLEN be notified to appear here at the next July Term of this court, & show cause if any he has why said securities shall not be released & he gave a new Bond and security for his guardianship &c.

This day JAMES H. KING Administrator of all and singular the goods & Chattles Rights and credits of REUBEN T. HOUSE deceased made a Return of an Inventory & an account of sales of said Estate which was received by the Court & ordered of Record.

Ordered by the court that JAMES RADFORD overseer, of a Settlement Road be required to keep said Road in repair, the to forks of the road near JAMES McKNIGHTs.

Ordered that Court adjourn till Court in course.
