Dyer County Court Clerk Minutes

Dated March 5, 1849


Be it Remembered that a county court was begun and held for the County of Dyer State of Tennessee at the Court House in the Town of Dyersburg on the first Monday in March it being the fifth day of said month in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & forty Nine & in the Seventy third year of the American Independence of the United Stated.

Present and holding said Court the Worshipful THOMAS J. CONNELL Esquire Chairman of said Court, SAMUEL McDAVID and ALEXANDER B. STALLCUP Esquires quorum Justices, THOMAS NASH, SILAS FERRELL, HENRY WYNNE, S. G. GILLESPIE Justices, Z. B. PHILLIPS Sheriff of said county and JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of said court, Proclamation having been made as the manner is, The following proceedings were had, Towit:

The Jury of view appointed at the Last Term of this court to mark out an alteration in the Old Lake Road between J. M. McCORKLE's Grave yard and Wood's School house came this day into open court and reported favorable to said alteration which was Received & ordered of Record.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Issued March 5th 1849

Ordered by the court that the Sheriff summon the following good and Lawful men of the body of Dyer to be and appear at the court House in Dyersburg, on the second Monday in June next then and there to serve as a venire at the Circuit Court of said county, towit:
In the 1st District SOLOMON RICE, WILLIAM SCALES and NOAH PERRY
In the 2nd District DAVID BOWEN and JOHN W. REDDICK
In the 3rd District ROBERT JOHNSON and LEWIS TURNAGE
In the 4th District P. T. A. WALKER, EDWIN EUDALEY and JESSE CLARK
In the 5th District ASA FOWLKES and SAMUEL T. NEELY
In the 6th District WILLIAM G. FRAZIER and MICHAEL O. B. GAULDEN
In the 7th District GEORGE A. WOOD and ISAAC SAWYER
In the 8th District JOHN G. H. WILSON and EDMUND CHITWOOD
In the 9th District E. A. McCORKLE, MOSES HEDDEN and SAMUEL MOORE
In the 10th District SAMUEL GILLIS
In the 11th District JOHN T. FIELDS
In the 12th District JOHN WYNNE and H. M. McBRIDE - and
JOHN W. SAUNDERS and RICHARD HEATH Constable to wail on said court & jury and that venire facias issue &c

This day JOHN NASH was chosen and appointed Guardian of NANCY REBECCA DENT a minor orphan of this county, whereupon the said JOHN NASH came into open court together with THOMAS NASH and JOHN F. SINCLAIR his securitys and entered into and acknowledged Bond...

This day DAVID BOWEN was appointed administrator of the Estate of ALFRED A. EDNEY deceased, whereupon the said DAVID BOWEN came into court together with HENDERSON CLARK his security and entered into and acknowledged Bond...

This day SIMON P. HAWKINS was appointed administrator of the Estate of JOHN H. BRUCE deceased, whereupon the said SIMON P. HAWKINS came into open court together with ASA GRIFFIN his security and entered into and acknowledged Bond...

This day HENRY WYNNE one of the Justices of this court came into open court here together with THOMAS H. FOWLKES his security and entered into and acknowledged Bond in the penal sum of Five hundred dollars, conditioned and payable as the law directs, under an Act of the General Assembly giving Justices of the Peace Jurisdiction of small offences.

This day JOHN F. SINCLAIR one of the Justices of this court came into open court here together with THOMAS H. FOWLKES his security and entered into and acknowledged Bond in the penal sum of Five hundred dollars, conditioned and payable as the law directs, under an Act of the General Assembly giving Justices of the Peace Jurisdiction of small offences.

This day ISAAC SAWYER one of the Justices of this court came into open court here together with THOMAS H. FOWLKES his security and entered into and acknowledged Bond in the penal sum of Five hundred dollars, conditioned and payable as the law directs, under an Act of the General Assembly giving Justices of the Peace Jurisdiction of small offences.

Ordered by the court that ALFRED JONES be appointed overseer of that part of the Troy Road between the Eight mile tree and where the old Lake road intersects it, in place of JOHN R. CROW resigned...

Ordered by the court that WILLIS SAWYER be appointed overseer of that part of the Trenton Road between the creek east of G. R. MULHERIN's and the west end of A. DUNAVANT's lane, instead of JAMES WALKER resigned...

Ordered by the court that JOHN WYNNE, R. R. WATSON, I. L. BRANDON, J. B. BRANDON, and DAVID FORD be appointed a Jury of view to consider the expediency of an alteration in the Key Corner road...

Ordered by the court that GEORGE W. WALKER be appointed overseer of that part of the Eaton road between where it intersects the Jackson road and the Fourteen mile tree, instead of WILLIAM BOWEN resigned...

This day JOHN H. CHRISTIE obtained Leave to Record his stock mark Towit a Half Crop in the Right & Split in the Left Ear.

This day a settlement made by JOHN F. SINCLAIR & SETH WILLIAMS Administrators of ROBERT C. DINWOODIE deceased with JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of this court was produced in open court, & was in all things confirmed & ordered of Record.
