Dyer County Court Clerk Minutes Dated March 6, 1848 |
Be it Remembered that a county court was begun and held for the County of Dyer & State of Tennessee at the Court House in the Town of Dyersburg on the first Monday in March it being the sixth day of said month in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & forty Eight & in the 72nd year of American Independence. Present & Holding Said court the Worshipfull THOMAS J. CONNELL Esquire Chairman. Present SILAS FERRELL, A. B. STALCUP, ASA GRIFFIN, A. WILKINS, JEHEEL M. McCORKLE & JOHN WYNN Esquires Justices of said Court Z. B. PHILLIPS, Sheriff of said County & JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of said Court when the Court proceeded to business.
On a Motion of EGBERT G. HILL for a certificate of good moral character preparatory to obtaining secure? to practice Law, and It appearing to the satisfaction of the Court here that the said E. G. HILL is a young man of good moral character & Twenty one years of age. It is therefore ordered by the court that the clerk of this court issue a certificate to said E. G. HILL accordingly.
Issued March 13th 1848 Ordered by the Court that HENRY P. STRAWN, C. GREEN, H. L. SCOBY, SAMUEL MOORE & C. SMITH be & they are hereby appointed a Jury of view to review & mark out an alteration in the Lake Road coveening? at or near C. GREENS Leaving THOMAS PAUL to the South & intersect the old Road near M. C. SCOBYS and that they being first duly sworn make their report to the next Term of this Court.
Issued March 13th 1848 Ordered by the Court that THOMAS H. FOWLKES, WILLIAM MARTIN, G. R. MULHEREN, A. WILKINS, BENJ. WYNN, THOMAS H. JOHNSON, JOHN RODGERS & CHRISTIAN COBB & S. D. LIGHT be & they are hereby appointed a jury of view to view & mark out an alteration in the Yorkville Road near H. CLARKs and that they being first duly sworn report to the next Term of this Court.
This day JOHN WILLIFORD obtains leave to record his stock mark Towit Swollow fork in the Right & split & under bit in the Left ear.
Issued 20th March 1848 This day JOHN B. BAILEY produced here in open court the scalp of a wolf over four months old & proved to the satisfaction of the court here that he killed the same in Dyer County five Justices of this Court being present the same was ordered to be so certified to the Comptroller of the Treasury.
This day B. B. WATSON Revenue Commissioner of the 1st Civil district in this County Returned a List of the Taxable property and Polls in said district for the year 1848 which was received by the Court & ordered of Record.
Issued 13th March 1848 Ordered by the Court that the Sheriff Summons the following good and Lawful men of the Body of Dyer to be and appear at the Court House in the Town of Dyersburg at the next circuit Court to be held on the second Monday in June next then & there to serve as a ----? at said County Towit
SOLOMON RICE, NOAH PERRY & JOSEPH WRIGHT for the first civil district
This day JOHN W. SAUNDERS who was duly & constitutionally Elected Constable in the first civil district in this county on the fourth day of March 1848 came into open court here together with SOLOMON RICE & ASA GRIFFIN his securities and entered into and acknowledged Bond in the penal sum of four Thousand Dollars conditioned and payable as the Law directs and was duly qualified as the Law directs.
This day WILLIAM A. DAWSON who has been duly & constitutionally Elected a Constable of the fourth civil district in this county on the fourth day of March 1848 came into open court here together with HENDERSON CLARK and JESSE CLARK his securities and entered into and acknowledged Bond in the penal sum of four Thousand Dollars conditioned and payable as the Law direct and was duly & constitutionally qualified.
This day D. J. WILLIAMSON who has been duly & constitutionally Elected Constable of the 4th civil district in this county on the fourth day of March 1848 came into open court here together with CHARLES RUDDEN, JOHN WYNNE, A. G. FERGUSON & ASA FOWLKES his securities and Entered into and acknowledged Bond in the penal sum of four Thousand dollars conditioned and payable as the Law directs and thereupon he was duly sworn into office as the Law directs.
This day URIAH C. HENDRICKS who was duly & constitutionally Elected Constable in the ninth civil district in this county on the fourth day of March 1848 came into open court here together with JOHEEL? M. McCORKLE and JOHN WYNNE & DANIEL R. HENDRICKS his securitys and entered into and acknowledged Bond in the penal sum of four thousand dollars conditioned & payable as the Law directs and was duly qualified &c
This day SAMUEL G. NEELEY who was duly & constitutionally Elected Constable of the fifth civil district in this County on the fourth day of March 1848 came into open court here together with CHRISTIAN COBB & JOHN WYNNE his securities, and entered into and acknowledged Bond in the penal sum of Four Thousand Dollars conditioned and payable as the Law directs and was duly qualified.
This day WILLIAM APPLEWHITE who was duly Elected Constable of the 6th civil district in Said county on the 4th day of March 1848 came into open court here together with EDWARD HASKINS and JOHN WYNNE his securities and entered in and acknowledged Bond in the penal sum of Four Thousand dollars conditioned and payable as the Law directs and thereupon was duly qualified.
This day a settlement made by RICHARD R. WATSON Administrator of THOMAS HILL Deceased with JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of this court, was produced here in open court & in all things confirmed the court & ordered of Record.
This day a settlement made by M. R. HILL Administrator of C. FREELAND deceased with JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of this court was produced in open court & in all things confirmed by the court and ordered of Record.
This day a settlement Prorata of the Estate of THOMAS HILL amongst the creditors thereof made by JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of this court was produced here in open court & in all things confirmed by the court & ordered of Record.
This day a settlement made by RICHARD HENDERSON Guardian of WILLIAM S. HENDERSON with JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of this court was produced here in open court and in all things confirmed by the court & ordered of Record.
This day a settlement made by ASA FOWLKES Guardian of the Minor Heirs of JAMES SMITH Deceased with JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of this court, was produced here in open court & in all things confirmed by the court & ordered of Record.
This day ROBERT JOHNSON Eqr. Revinue Commissioner of the 3rd civil district of this county made Return of a list of Taxable property & Polls in said district for the year 1848 which was Received by the court & ordered of Record.
This day ASA FOWLKES Revanue Commissioner of the 5th civil district in Dyer County made Return of a list of the Taxable property & Polls in said district for the year 1848 which was Received by the court & ordered of Record.
Issued 13 March 1848 Ordered by the Court that SAMUEL MOORE be & he is hereby appointed overseer of that part of the Yorkville Road commencing at GREENs Meeting and work to the South west corner, of WILLIAM J. SCOBYs Land and that he have, the hands in the following bounds, Towit, ... on the CLARK & POLK Tracts ... paralel line with WM. J. SCOBYs South west ... H. L. SCOBY, J. M. SCOBY & ELAM McCRACKEN to work on said Road...
