Dyer County Court Clerk Minutes

Dated February 5, 1849


Be it Remembered that a county court was begun and held for the County of Dyer State of Tennessee at the Court House in the Town of Dyersburg on the first Monday in February it being the fifth day of said month in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & forty Nine & in the 73rd year of American Independence.

Present and holding said Court the Worshipfull THOMAS J. CONNELL Esquire Chairman of said Court, SAMUEL McDAVID & A. B. STALLCUP quorum Justices of said court, SAML WALKER, J. M. McCORKLE Esqs Justices of this court and Z. B. PHILLIPS Sheriff of said county and JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of said court, proclamation having been made as the manner is, The following proceedings were had, Towit:

Ordered by the court that E. A. HENDERSON be appointed overseer of that part of the Troy road from Dyersburg to Lewis creek Bridge...

Issued 13th Feby 1849

Ordered by the court that CHARLES H. LEDSINGER, WM. S. NORMENT, S. SEGRAVES, THOS. H. JOHNSON and S. G. GILLESPIE be appointed a Jury of view to examine and consider the exediency of an alteration in the Troy Road...

Ordered by the court that JOSHUA NEELY be appointed overseer of that part of the Troy Road instead of JAMES P. HURT, resigned...

Issued 18th Feby 1849

Ordered by the court that R. A. H. McCORKLE, DANIEL HENDRICKS, D. J. GALLIHER, WM. H. FRANKLIN and JOHN F. ALGEA be appointed a Jury of view to Lay off and mark a road leaving the old Lake road at or near the Grave yard near J. M. McCORKLES and intersecting the same road at or near Woods School House...

Ordered by the court that the order of this court which appointed ARCHIBALD FEATHERSTONE overseer of that part of the Trenton Road between Reeds Creek Bridge and Gibson County line shall not take effect until after the first day of March next.

Ordered by the court that JESSE CLARK & OLIVER J. LINDSAY be and the same are hereby appointed Town Commissioners for the Town of Dyersburg whereupon the said JESSE CLARK & O. J. LINDSEY came into open court and were duly qualified.

Issued 15th Feby 1849

Ordered by the court that HENRY WYNNE, M. O. B. GAULDEN and E. P. LIGHT be appointed commissioners to lay off a part of the Trenton between the George Town road and the west end of A. DUNAVANT's lane for the hands of WILLIAM SMITH, and also a part of the same road for JERRY PIERCE's hands, and that they being first duly sworn report to the next Term of this court.
