Dyer County Court Clerk Minutes Dated 4 December, 1848 |

Be it Remembered that a county court was begun and held for the County of Dyer State of Tennessee at the Court House in the Town of Dyersburg on the first Monday in December it being the fourth day of said month in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & forty Eight & in the 73rd year of American Independence. Present and holding said Court the Worshipful THOMAS J. CONNELL Esquire, Chairman, A. B. STALCUP, SAMUEL McDAVID Esquires quorum Justices of said court ASA GRIFFIN, WM. MILLER, THOS. NASH, JOSEPH N. PIERCE, C. COBB, S. G. GILLESPIE, SILAS FERRELL, ISAAC SAWYER and JOHN WYNNE Esquires Justices of this court; Z. B. PHILLIPS Sheriff of said county and JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of said court when the following proceedings were had, Towit:
This day W. W. BIGGS came into open court and entered into Bond as the law requires, well and truly to discharge his duties as Guardian of BRYANT B., LAWRENCE P., EDWIN G., WILLIAM B., JESSE H., LOT M., LYDIA A. and LOUISA STALLIONS [Stallings], minor heirs of HUMPHREY STALLIONS [Stallings]; with ASA GRIFFIN and JOHN A. STALLIONS [Stallings] securities & was duly qualified.
Issued 5th Dec 1848 Ordered by the court that ISAAC SAWYER, SAML WALKER and JEREMIAH PIERCE be appointed commissioners to meet at the Bridge at Union Meetinghouse at as early a day as possible and set out the repairing of it to the lowest bidder and report to the next term of this court.
Issued 5th Dec 1848 Ordered by the court that ASA GRIFFIN Esqr be appointed Revinew Commission in the 1st civil district and that he take in & Return a list of the Taxable property & polls in said district for the year 1849

Ordered by the court that THOMAS NASH Esqr be appointed Revenue Commissioner in the 2nd civil district...
Issued 5th Dec 1848 Ordered by the court that S. G. GILLESPIE furnish MR. HENSEN, a blind man, and family with what provisions are necessary and present an account of them to the next term of this court.
This day THOMAS J. CONNELL a Justice of this court came into court here together with ALEXANDER B. STALCUP & SAMUEL McDAVID his securities, and entered into and acknowledged Bond in the penal sum of Five Hundred dollars in accordance with an act of the General Assembly giving Justices of the Peace Jurisdiction of small offences, conditioned & payable as the Law directs.
This day ASA GRIFFIN Esqr. one of the Justices of this court came into court here together with THOMAS NASH & WILLIAM W. BIGGS his securities and entered into and acknowledged Bond... [same as above]

This day F. G. SAMPSON was appointed deputy Clerk of this court & Taken the several Oathes of office.
