Dyer County Court Clerk Minutes

Dated August 5, 1850


Be it Remembered that a County Court was begun and held at the Court House in the Town of Dyersburg for the County of Dyer, State of Tennessee, on the first Monday (it being the 5th day) of August in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty & in the Seventy fifth year of the Independence of the United States of America

Present and holding said Court the Worshipful THOMAS J. CONNELL Esquire Chairman, SAMUEL McDAVID and A. B. STALCUP, Esquires quorum, BENJAMIN W. PERRY, CHRISTIAN COBB, SILAS FERRELL, H. N. JACKSON, ISAAC SAWYER, Justices of said Court and WILLIAM A. DAWSON Sheriff of Dyer County. It appearing that JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of this Court had nominated FRANCIS G. SAMPSON for his Deputy, the Court appointed said SAMPSON who thereupon came into Court here and was duly qualified as Deputy Clerk of this Court, and the court proceeded to business:

Ordered by the Court that WILLIAM MARTIN, RICHARD HENDERSON, J. G. H. WILSON, RICHARD HEARTH and PRESTON HOLLAND be appointed a Jury of view to examine and mark out a new Road from RICHARD HENDERSONs to FOSTER's Old Mill on the Gibson County Line and that they being first sworn report to the next Term of this court.

Ordered by the Court that ANDERSON DICKEY cut out a new Road from THOMAS PACE's to Reed's Creek...

This day MATTHEW DICKEY, Guardian of MARIAN E. M. DICKEY minor daughter of MADISON DICKEY deceased, presented to the Court here a Settlement made by him with the Clerk of this court for the year 1850..., with ANDERSON DICKEY his security...

Ordered by the Court that THOMAS J. MANSFIELD be reappointed overseer of that part of the Jackson Road between EMANUEL TURNAGE's Road and the Haywood County line... and have HUMPHREY REDDICK JR. in addition to work on said road...

Ordered by the Court that ANDERSON TURPEN, HUMPHREY REDDICK SR., H. N. JACKSON, GEORGE BETTIS and REDDING WILLIAMS be appointed a Jury of View to examine and mark out an alteration in the Frog Jump Road...

Ordered by the Court that the Sheriff of Dyer County cause SALLY FERGUSON's two children to be brought into this court at its next Term that they may be provided for as their condition (in the discretion of the court) may require.

Ordered by the Court that JOSEPH M. SCOBY be appointed overseer of that part of the Yorkville Road between Green's Meeting House... to WM. J. SCOBY's land instead of ALLEN A. ATKINS resigned...
