Dyer County Court Clerk Minutes

Dated August 6, 1849


Be it Remembered that a county court was begun and held for the County of Dyer State of Tennessee at the Court House in the Town of Dyersburg on the first Monday in August it being the sixth day of said month in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & forty Nine & in the Seventy fourth year of the Independence of the United States of America.

Present and holding said Court the Worshippful THOMAS J. CONNELL Esquire Chairman, SAMUEL McDAVID and A. B. STALLCUP Esquires quorum, THOMAS NASH, JOSEPH N. PIERCE & WILLIAM MILLER Justices of this court, Zaccheus B. PHILLIPS Sheriff of said County, and JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of this Court; when, after Proclamation in the usual manner, the following proceedings were had, towit:

This day ELIZABETH HARRIS was chosen and appointed Guardian of ROBERT and NANCY HARRIS minor orphans of this county, Whereupon came the said ELIZABETH HARRIS into open court together with MICHAEL HARRIS and ARCHIBALD HARRIS her securities and entered into and acknowledged Bond...

Ordered by the Court that DAVID PARRISH and ANDREW J. PATE work on that part of the Jackson Road of JOSEPH MILLER is overseer instead of that part under RICHARD STAGGS overseer.

Ordered by the Court that DAVID PARRISH, GEORGE B. PATE, GEORGE MILLER, WILLIAM R. NASH and HENRY TILLEY be appointed a Jury of view to examine and consider an alteration in the Jackson Road commencing at the Branch east of A. J. PATE's and intersecting the old road again on the hill east of HENRY TILLY's lane...

This day THOMAS J. CONNELL was chosen and appointed Guardian of GEORGE ALSOBROOKS, whereupon came the said THOMAS J. CONNELL into open court together with JAMES FIELDS and SAMUEL McDAVID his securities...

This day JOHN WYNNE, R. R. WATSON, J. L. BRANDON, DAVID FORD and JEROME B. BRANDON the Jury of view to consider an alteration in the Ripley Road, submitted a report...

This day ELI BOYETT Administrator of MOSES HEDDEN deceased returned to Court here an inventory and account of Sales of said Estate which was received and ordered to be recorded.

This day NATHAN WILKINS obtained leave to record his Stock mark which is a smooth crop and underbit in the right ear.

This day R. A. H. McCORKLE, DANIEL HENDRICKS and E. A. McCORKLE made a report of what provisions they had set apart for MRS. HEDDEN to which MRS. HEDDEN by her representative protests, and it appearing to the satisfaction of the court that said provision is insufficient, it is therefore ordered by the court that BENJAMIN W. PERRY, WILLIAM MILLER and ALBERT G. FERGUSON be appointed Commissioners, who thereupon retired and reported immediately which report was received by the Court and ordered to be recorded.

Ordered by the Court that Zaccheus B. PHILLIPS and ALBERT G. FERGUSON be appointed Commissioners to settle with JAS. H. DOYLE Administrator of LEWIS NOLEN and GEORGE W. McGUIRE deceased.
