Dyer County Court Clerk Minutes Dated April 3, 1848 |
Be it Remembered that a county court was begun and held for the County of Dyer State of Tennessee at the Court House in the Town of Dyersburg on the first Monday in April it being the Third day of said month in the year of our Lord One Thousand Eight Hundred & forty Eight & in the 72nd year of American Independence. Present and holding said court the worshipful THOMAS J. CONNELL Esquire Chairman of said Court SAMUEL McDAVID, A. B. STALCUP, CHRISTIAN COBB, JOHN G. H. WILSON, JEHIEL M. McCORKLE & THOMAS FRAZIER Esquires Justices of said court Z. B. PHILLIPS Sheriff of said County & JAMES H. DOYLE Clerk of said court Proclamation being made as the manner is the court proceeded to Business.
This day Z. B. PHILLIPS who was duly & constitutionally Elected Sheriff of Dyer County for Two years next from & after the 4th day of March 1848 came into open court her and Entered into and acknowledged Bond in the words and figures following Towit
Know all men by these presents that we Zaccheus B. PHILLIPS, THOMAS J. CONNELL, SAMUEL McDAVID, JESSE CLARK, D. J. WILLIAMSON & J. H. DOYLE are held and firmly bound unto the State of Tennessee in the penal sum of Twelve Thousand five hundred Dollars Lawful money of Tennessee for the payment of which well and truly to be made we and each of us bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, administrators &c jointly & severally, firmly by these presents. Witness our hands and seals this 3rd day of April 1848.
The condition of the above obligation is such that the above bound Zaccheus B. PHILLIPS was duly and constitutionally elected Sheriff of Dyer County on the 4th day of March 1848 for two years next from and after these presents.
Ordered by the court that HUMPHREY REDDICK furnish REDDING CAMPBELL a pauper of this county provisions necessary for his support, until the next quarterly Term of this court, not to exceed Ten dollars in value.
This day THOMAS FRAZIER, SILAS FERRELL, GILES HAWKINS & ROBERT JOHNSON Esquires Tenders their Resignation as Justices of this court which was Recorded by the court & ordered of Record.
Issued 5th Apl 1848 This day JESSE CLARK Coroner of this county made Report of an Inquest held by him over the Body of HEWEN BREWER, deceased which was Received by the court &c.
