The Crockett Times Alamo, Tenn. Thursday, March 21, 1946 Mayor Walker Passes Away Lonnie F. Walker, mayor of Bells for 16 years, died at his home at 4 Tuesday afternoon following a short illness. He was 72. Services at 3 Wednesday afternoon at Bells Methodist Church with the Rev. J. P. Irion officiating . Burial in Brownsville Cemetery. Born in Haywood County, Tenn., where he spent his youth, Mayor Walker moved to Bells in 1903. He first held office in 1920, serving until his defeat in 1931 by C. Rex Mehr, Sr. He also was a Crockett County justice of the peace, holding both offices at the time of his death. He retired as operator of a barber shop in January. He leaves two brothers, George Walker of Hughes, Pa., and J. R. Walker of Brownsville, and two sisters, Miss Vennie Walker and Miss Winnie Walker, also of Brownsville. Mr. Walker was an outstanding citizen of Crockett County and his death is more than a matter of passing regret. He will be missed in the community that he has served so faithfully for many years.
