Humboldt Courier-Chroncle Gibson Co., TN Friday November 16, 1923 MOTHER DIES--The following clipped from the Bells Sentinal of last week tells of the sudden death and burial of MRS. W. W. SHERROD, mother of Gen. G. C. SHERROD, which occurred in Bells on Nov. 2nd. "The death of Mrs. W. W. SHERROD at the home of Esq. & Mrs. W. A. WAINWRIGHT last Friday night, Nov. 2nd, was not only a shock keenly felt by her immediate family, but the entire community. A week before she had visited her manly sons; Capt. W. L. SHERROD and family, of Macon, Miss., and Gen. G. C. SHERROD and family, of Humboldt; then she returned to be with her daughter, Mrs. WAINWRIGHT, Monday, Oct. 28th. She was in her 77th year. Seven children survive:Capt. W. L. SHERROD, Attorney General G. C. SHERROD, Dora WAINWRIGHT, Mrs. Maggie KANABLE, Mrs. Willie CALDWELL, and Mrs. Maude WELBOURNE. Funeral services were at the residence. Pallbearers were six grandsons and two great-grandsons as follows: William Sherrod WELBORN, Lyle WAINWRIGHT, Leo WAINWRIGHT, Cooke WAINWRIGHT, Nelson SHERROD, Hal WAINWRIGHT, W. J. GILFILLAN and E. M. HALYARD. Mrs. Mary E. Sherrod was born Nov 11 1847, died Nov 2 1923. Her husband, William W. Sherrod, was born Feb 1 1845, died Nov 22 1901. |
