Crockett County Sentinel Alamo, Tennessee Friday, January 9, 1874 Died, on the 3th inst., at the residence of J. W. Lyons, Esq., in Crockett county, Tenn., Thos. M. Powell, in the 22nd year of his age. The wall of stricken ones dirge the departed in the flush of young manhood - moral, noble and intelligent - with a future spread out before him beauteous and glowing, wrought by his gentle kindness to all, he passed away. "Death that knocks at the palace of the rich and cottage of the poor" - dread alike to the jewel-crowned king and rag-clad mendicant - stalked into the circle of fond kindred and loving friends and left his footprints amid crushed hearts and bleeding souls. Friends and kindred gathered around. Merciful God ! divert this blow from us, kindred cried. "Take me, but spare by boy," his old father prayed in agony; but the blow has fallen. Surely only Christian fortitude could have borne his affliction so uncomplaininly. His few faults are lost and forgotten in the beauty of his many virtues. God pity them all! God pity his wife and little babe! |
