James H. Jones, prominent West Tennessee businessman and landowner, died at 6 p.m. Sunday night at a hospital in Brownsville. He was 88.

Mr. Jones, who had been visiting his daughter, Mrs. Elliott Perry in Brownsville, slipped and fell several months ago. He was taken to the hospital and failed to rally from the shock.

Services were held at the Baptist Church in Dyersburg Monday with burial in Fairview Cemetery there. Officiating ministers were Rev. Hamilton, Rev. J. T. Barker and Rev. T. R. Williams. Thompson Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones was born near Tigrett where he spent the greater part of his life. He was the son of the late Confederate Capt. Tom W. Jones and Elizabeth Mitchell Jones, members of pioneer West Tennessee families.

Mr. Jones held considerable land in and near Tigrett, where he lived until three years ago when his ancestral home burned. He then moved to Trenton.

Mr. Jones had extensive business interests in Tigrett and was a director in the First Citizens National Bank at Dyersburg, which his father helped to organize.
