James Cooke--Services were held at Cairo Church of Christ Monday for James Loyd Cooke of near Alamo who was killed Sunday in a truck accident on the Tigrett Highway. R. E. Black officiated and burial was in Cairo Cemetery under direction of Ronk Funeral Home of Alamo. Mr. Cooke was 21. A companion in the truck, Dorris Ray Brown, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lofton Brown of Alamo was seriously injured and was carried to Baird-Brewer Hospital. Sheriff John Yarbro of Dyer County, who investigated, said tracks along the highway indicated the truck must have met another vehicle and that both were forced to swerve to avoid a head on collision. The pickup truck in which the Alamo men were riding left the highway on the right side, crossed over to the left side again and smashed into a high bank. The truck then flipped back over and landed upside down on the highway. Mr. Cooke was a farmer, World War II veteran, and a member of the American Legion. He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Cooke; a sister, Eleanor Faye Cooke, and a brother, Denton Cooke all of Alamo. Also his grandmother, Mrs. Alice King survives. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
