The Crockett Times, Alamo, and/or Crockett County Sentinel, Bells 14 Mar 1974 James Owen (Jimmy) Cherry, son of Mrs. Buford Cherry, Sr. and the late Mr. Buford Cherry was pronounced dead at Parkview Hospital at 5:30 Friday afternoon. Jimmy and his uncle, Parker Cherry were cleaning out a 12,000 gallon tank that had previously had aviation fuel stored. They were cleaning it to store diesel for the farming season. Jimmy ask his uncle to go get him a broom and when Parker returned in about four minutes Jimmy was lying in the bottom of the tank. Jimmy attended Friendship High School where he was a Freshman. He was a 4-H Club member and very active in FFA and worked on the farm with his uncles, Parker and John Moss Cherry. Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Halls Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Halls Cemetery. He also leaves a brother, John Beasley Cherry; three sisters, Susan, Nina and Dawn Cherry all of home; a half-brother, Buford Cherry, Jr. of Halls; three half-sisters, Mrs. Peggy Wagner of San Diego, California, Mrs. Virginia Riley and Mrs. Angela Perry of Halls and maternal grandmother, Mrs. May Moore of Jackson. Pallbearers were: Phil Park, Ray Gray, Donald Williams, Percy Thompson, Jr., Shawn David, Benjy Cherry, Jerald Jones and Benny Anderson all classmates and friends.
