The Crockett Times, June, 1964 Tom A. Cates, 65, died Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Jackson-Madison County hospital. He had been ill for two months. Mr. Cates was born near Alamo and lived in the town the greater part of his life. He owned and operated the Alamo Barber Shop for 37 years and was active in church and civic affairs. He was a former member of the Alamo City Council; member of the Alamo Church of Christ and had served as deacon and elder. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Bob Cates. Services will be held today – Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Alamo Church of Christ with Charles Cranford, local minister, officiating. Burial will be in Belleview Cemetery in Bells with Bells funeral Home in charge. The body will be at the family residence on West Main Street until time of funeral. His wife, Mrs. Eldora Anderson Cates; a son, Robert Cates of Alamo and a brother, Ted Cates of Brownsville, survive.
