The Jackson Daily Sun Jackson, Madison County, Tennessee January 2, 1924 Mrs. L. E. Cates Dies Here After Brief Illness Mrs. Flossie Cates, 33, Wife of L. E. Cates, local business man, died at8:30 o’clock last night at her home, 220 West Lafayette Street, following an illness of one week. The cause of death was pneumonia. Mr. & Mrs. Cates moved to Jackson about 14 months ago from Alamo. Mr. Cates is in business on West Lafayette Street. Mrs. Cates was born and reared near Alamo, and joined the Christian church when a young girl. She was a devout worker and a good Christian mother. She made many friends during her 14 months’ residence in Jackson. She is survived by her husband and three children, mother and two brothers. Her sons are Charles, aged 12, and Max aged 6 months; her daughter, Mary Frances is 7 years old. Her mother and brothers live at Alamo. The remains will be forwarded via the B. & N. W. to Alamo tomorrow afternoon by the Alexander Undertaking Company, and funeral services will be conducted tomorrow afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Cairo Christian church near Alamo, and interment will be in the Cairo church cemetery.
Note: Mary Flossie Conley and Luther Ernest Cates had 3 children: Charles Rainey Cates, Mary Frances Cates, and Max Luther Cates. Her brothers were Jesse Cooper Conley and Jodie Woodson Conley.
