After his recovery he joined the Kentucky campaign from Chattanooga, and was again wounded at Perryville, Ky. He was shot in the right shoulder and discharged, not being able for further duty. He returned home and attended school one year (1864), and at the expiration of the time began school-teaching, and continued until 1871, with the exception of one year, when he was a clerk in the merchandise business.
