Alamo, Monday March 3 A.D. 1873

JOHN COX
Apprenticed to
J. R. ROPER

Indenture of apprinticship between the State of Tennessee by order of the County Court for said County on the one part and J. R. ROPER on the other part Witnesuth? that whereas It has been made appear to the satisfaction of the Court that JOHN COX Col a minor Eleven years old is an orphan Whose Estate of so small a value that no person will Educate and maintain him for the profits thereof Therefore the State of Tennessee by said County Court doth hereby bind him the said JOHN COX to J. R. ROPER until he shall attain the age of Twenty one years to learn the trade of a farmer and the state aforesaid Covenant with the said J. R. ROPER that said JOHN COX shall faithfully serve him and correctly demean himself during said apprinticship and the said J. R. ROPER doth Covenant with the State that he will provide JOHN COX with dut? clothing and accomodations fit and necessary and teach or cause him to be taught to read and write and cipher to the single rule of three and at the Experation of the apprenticship pay him the said JOHN COX thirty dollars in addition of what is allowed by Law and one suit of Sunday Clothes.

Thereupon J. R. ROPER came into Court and entered into Bond of Five hundred dollars for the faithful performance of his duty with S. H.? STRAYHON & J. A. GRIFFIN as his securities, which was acknowledged in open Court approved by the Court and ordered to be recorded.
