[TNCARROL-L] Monroe, Atchisons
Does anyone search Francis Monroe (17th district) in Carroll Co. or Adam
Atchison who married his daughter?

[TNCARROL-L] LIPE
Ggrandfather Curtis LIPE b. 1880 Hollow Rock, TN His mother Mary
Elizabeth _____
b. 1852 , came to TN when she was 8 years old.....unclear from where. Ethey
Dean LIPE b. 1870 Ethey's father was BUFORD LIPE Curtis once said that
his father's name was JOHN
LIPE I have not been able to find BUFORD on the census. Anyone have a
John Buford Lipe or ANY info on Buford?
I have anecdotal stories that Buford was brother to John William (Bud)
Lipe, Isaac (Ike) Lipe, Lucinda Lipe m. James Cook , Martha Lipe.... The
family of James Lipe on the 1860 census fits this pretty closely....but no
Buford. Anyone familiar with these families?

[TNCARROL-L] James Berry ROGERS
Goodspeed's History says that James Berry ROGERS was born in Carroll =
Co., TN, 11 Dec. 1826. The date is certainly correct; however, he could =
have been born in Humphreys or Hickman County.

James married Susan F. JAMES May 25 1848, probably in Johnson Co., AR. =
He died in 1884 (unknown location).

James was living with his parents, Jones and Sarah S. (King) ROGERS, in =
Johnson Co., AR, in 1840. After his marriage in 1848, he does not show =
up in either AR or TN. Family tradition says that he guided wagon =
trains to California. I have no idea where to look for him in census =
reports.

I suspect that James may have returned to TN to live near some of the =
JAMES family, and he may have died there. I have not found land patents =
or burial information on him in AR.

Could someone with access to 1870 and/or 1880 TN census indices try to =
find him for me?

[TNCARROL-L] YATES (m/Morefield)
Hello Everyone:
My name is Judy (Morefield) Gordon and I am a new subscriber to this list.
Among others, I am researching the surname, YATES. My Grandfather's sister,
Eliza Elizabeth "Bettie" MOREFIELD (1872-1948) married Rev. Cornelius
Anderson "Neal"/"C.A." YATES (1858-1932) in 1887(not sure where). Bettie
was born in Graves County, KY, Neal's birthplace is unknown to me, at this
writing. They were both buried at Rozzell Chapel Cemetery, Graves County,
KY. They had 11 children. I have information on their names, birthdates &
marriages, that was taken from Bettie & Neals family Bible should anyone be
interested.

At some time in their lives, they both lived in Graves County, KY and also
in Carrol County, TN.. Neal attended, and later taught at Bethel College,
in McKenzie, TN., at one time teaching his own two oldest children. He was
also instrumental in the building of the Rozzell Chapel Presb. Church, in
Graves County, and pastored there, I'm told. As did, his father-in-law,
Betties father, Rev. James Wesley "J.W." MOREFIELD (my Great Grandfather).
I have both, Bettie & Neal's parents names, but that is far as I have gone
on either side. Neal's parents were Dr. John Anderson YATES and Irene
BROWN; Bettie's parents were Rev. James Wesley MOREFIELD and Mary Elizabeth
KEELING. I have much info. on the Keeling ancestors, none on Yates, Brown,
or Morefield, past these. If anyone on this list has any information on
any of these, especially YATES ancestors and/or descendants, I would
appreciate hearing from you. Would really like to hear from Yates
descendants! If there is anyone in Carrol County, TN, that has access to
Bethel College records, I would appreciate hearing from you. Also, straying
from the Yates path somewhat, I would like to know if there is anyone who
knows anything about a basket factory in a place called Mechanicsburg,
KY(suppose to have been in the Paducah area) back in the late 1800's to
early 1900's, as that is where J.W. Morefield was killed in an accident.
There is an article, to that fact, that was published in a newspaper in
1904, that I would like a copy of. It could have been in a Graves County or
McCracken County newspaper, I would think.
I would deeply appreciate any help that I can get from any of you! Also,
will be more than happy to share anything that I have. I hope that I
haven't imposed upon the Yates List by mentioning the others, but it is all
so intertwined that it is near impossible not to. Thank you, in advance,
for any help that you can give me!

[TNCARROL-L] Surname Roll Call

Re: [TNCARROL-L] Surname Roll Call
Adam Atchison, Francis Monroe, Mary Darcus Barnard.
Maybe, in Carroll Co. Akers or Acres, Wilson, Hall.

[TNCARROL-L] Roll Call-Rodgers
The surname that I am most interested in, at the moment, is RODGERS.
This is the first time that I have posted to this list, so I will fill you
in on my RODGERS line. My Great Grandfather was Rev. Jerry Albert "J.A."
RODGERS, born 18 Oct 1838, I believe in Carrol County, Tn..
I do know that he was ordained to preach in Carrol County, because I have a
copy of the document. He was married to Mary L., born 7 Nov 1847, don't
know where. He died 10 July 1903 and she died 3 Jan 1912, they are both
buried at Harmony Cemetery, in Fulton County, KY, the same county where I
live. J.A. must have been married before he married Mary, as the first
child is a half-brother to the other children. The children were:
James S. "Jim" RODGERS (1867)
George Lee RODGERS (1878)(my grandfather)
Will C. RODGERS (1882)
Daucie A. RODGERS (1884)
Jennie RODGERS (1887)

James married Ola RAMER and had 2 children: Virginia Gertrude RODGERS and
Marvin RODGERS.
Lee married Ruth BYNUM and had 1 child (my mother): Geneva Bynum RODGERS
Will married Rosa Lee ELLIS and I believe they had 2 children: Roy RODGERS
and a daughter whose name escapes me, at the moment. I have a picture of
these 2 children.
Daucie married Bessie ???? and they had 1 son: Thomas RODGERS.
Jennie married Robert L. CAMPBELL and they had 2 children: Mary Agusta
CAMPBELL and Albert Lee CAMPBELL.

Rev. J.A. RODGERS came to Moscow, Hickman County, KY from Huntingdon,
Carrol County, TN, not sure what year. He founded the Moscow Baptist
Church in 1892. He also had a brother, J.B. RODGERS who married F.A., and
they both came to Moscow and was instrumental in the founding of the same
church. According to church records, after J.B. died in 1915, his wife
moved her church membership back to Carrol County, TN. I believe that she
must have taken him back to Carrol County for burial and that she also is
buried there somewhere. I believe she was the one I remember Mother
calling Aunt Femma. This is about all I know about my Great Grandfather and
his brother. I know more about their descendants.

All of Rev. J.A. RODGERS children are buried in the same cemetery where he
is buried, the Harmony Cemetery, in Fulton County, KY.

If anyone recognizes any of these names, I would appreciate it very much if
you would contact me. I need all the help that I can get!
