Comments: MARTIN EMORY LYNCH DAVIS MCDANIEL - Very nice site. I
enjoyed the history of White County. I am looking for JOHN MARTIN
born ca 1745 in Virginia. He died ca 1799, possibly in White County,
GA. He was the younger brother of GENERAL JOSEPH MARTIN, Cherokee
Indian Agent. Was JOHN MARTIN the father of JOHN MARTIN who married
2 sisters (Nellie and Lucy MC DANIEL) and NANNIE MARTIN who married
JETER LYNCH and RACHEL MARTIN who married DANIEL DAVIS? Emmett Starr
in his book "History of the Cherokee Indians" says that General
Joseph Martin was their father and their mother was SUSANNAH EMORY.
Would anyone know more about this and help me out? Welcome any
information. Sincerely, Donna Stapp Redding, Ca

the lone grave in the front yard of a house on the Albert Reid Road.
The name on the grave is Morris. I cannot remember the date but the
birth is late 1700s and death is early 1800s before the County was
White Co, in fact it was probably Indian territory when this man was
buried. My great, great, great, grandmother was an Allison and
therefore I have roots in White County but I have always been
curious about this grave because it carries the Morris name. Anyone

Comments: This is a repost of a previous query with an updated email
address. Comments: In the early eighteen hundreds, a large group of
DORSEY's moved to northeast Georgia from around Burke and Lincoln
Counties, NC. Apparently they got lucky in the Cherokee Land
Lottery. In 1860, my great-great grandfather, E. H. DORSEY was
living in Walhalla, SC with his wife Louisa (BOUKNIGHTt) and son
John A. According to family lore, E. H. got into some kind of
trouble (possibly relating to the Civil War) and ran away and hid
out with some of the DORSEY's in NE Georgia. Eventualy he moved on
to Cumberland County, Tennessee where he lived out his life under
the name HARVEY KELLEY. I have not been able to determine who E. H.
DORSEY's parents were although I have several candidates. I think
his grandparents were ELIJAH and DELILAH ASHE DORSEY from Burke
County, NC who may have ended up in the Georgia, SC area also. I am
hoping that someone may be able to help me tie E. H. DORSEY into the
DORSEY family tree.

Comments: My wife and I share ggggrandmother who is buried in the
Lawrence Cemetery in White Co. Her name is Dorcas Allison. We are
kin to Allens, Ledfords, Ashs, Glovers, and others who immigrated to
White Co when it was in Habersham in the 1840s. Would love to
discuss with others who share these families. Thanks

Comments: Looking for descendants of NANCY CAROLINE STANDRIDGE
COLLINS. Mt. Yonah area of White Co. on 1860 census with parents
ISAIAH STANDRIDGE and SARAH DEAN. Isaiah died Richmond, VA during
Civil War. Son ISAAC STANDRIDGE moved to Blount Co., AL with uncle
ISAAC STANDRIDGE. Children JAMES W. STANDRIDGE and SARAH STANDRIDGE
moved there later. SARAH DEAN STANDRIDGEand NANCY CAROLINE
STANDRIDGE apparently stayed in White Co. There was a court case in
the early 1870's where ISAAC, JAMES and NANCY (now listed as
COLLINS) were suing JAMES DEAN and CALVIN KYTLE, adminstrators of
ISAIAH STANDRIDGE's estate. There have been indications that SARAH
DEAN STANDRIDGE, JAMES DEAN, WYLIE H. DEAN and MRS. CALVIN KYTLE
were all siblings. Anyone know who their parents were? Any
assistance greatly appreciated.
