M.H. Gilstrap Family Bible

Milton Harrison Gilstrap Family Bible – This is a large and ornate Bible weighing in at 12 pounds.  It was purchased in 1885 for $10.50.  The Gilstrap’s lived in Shoal Creek.  The name Gilstrap is almost always spelled with two Ls in the entries.  The Bible is also inscribed as having been presented to Johnnie Gilstrap by his father on April 17, 1944.  However, this was after Harrison Gilstrap’s death and it is assumed Johnnie received it after his death either based Harrison’s wishes prior to his death, or by custom because Johnnie was the youngest son.  It is currently in the possession of Gary N. Gilstrap, having been presented after the death of his Grandfather Johnnie Gilstrap on 2/25/1983.
