Independence Cemetery

Although this cemetery is located in Shelby County, you have to go in to Arkansas to reach it.


I-40W to Hwy 55 toward St Louis, MO, exit at Hwy 50 (exit 17), turn right, go thru stop light
over R/R tracks for about 3 1/2 miles, to the fork, take the road to the right, follow road for
about 2 miles to another fork, take the road to the far left to river. Follow road along river,
past cabin and barn to cotton patch. Cemetery is located about 1/2 mile straight ahead. There
are no headstones left.


Mr Al Powder owns the property, you have to cross in order to get to the cemetery. Please call
first (870) 739 - 4181, as there are No Trespassing signs. He lives nearby in Marion, Ark.


He told me there once was another cemetery located nearby. But it was swept away in the river.
