Richard Aaron was the son of Samuel Belew and Mary Polly Bryant.  He was born December 20, 1820, in Union County, South Carolina.  By 1830 he and his family were living in Gibson County.  On March 9, 1841 in Gibson County, he married Mary Jane Belew, daughter of Zachariah Calvin Belew and Elizabeth McDougal.  Samuel P. Belew was born July 12, 1844, and Levi Green Belew was born August 16, 1856.  Both were born in Gibson County.  Around 1857 he moved his family to Denton, Texas.
