This database has been extracted from the Tennessee State Library and Archives Web site. In 1891 Tennessee established the Board of Pension Examiners to review applications of Civil War veterans and widows of veterans to determine eligibility.
Here are some things that you need to take into account when reviewing this database:
1. Confederate veterans applied for pensions in the state and county in which they resided when the applications were filed, not the state or county in which they served.
2. In a lot of cases the veteran applied for a pension in one county and then his widow applied in another. For this listing I only extracted names for Gibson County. Here is an example:
James Monroe Crocker applied in Gibson County.
His wife Miriam applied for his pension in Greene County.
In this database I have only listed James.
If you find a name of interest in this listing, I encourage you to visit the Tennessee State Library and Archives site for additional information.
