LOCAL NEWS--Ralph A.TODD & Miss Martha ADAMS were quietly married at the home
of the bride’s parents,Mr.& Mrs.T.J.ADAMS on last Sunday
evening.Rev.TODD,father of the groom officiating in the presence of intimate
friends and relatives.Ralph is a young business man of this city,owner of the
Todd Garage.
DIES IN ARKANSAS--Joseph L.REA died at his home in Van Buren,Ark.,at 4:20
p.m.Thursday.He was born in McLean County.IL in 1851,therefore in his 69th
year.Upon reaching manhood,he settled in Humboldt,TN where he engaged in the
general mercantile business and in 1882 moved in Van Buren.(from the Van
Buren,Ark.,News.)
COMMITS SUICIDE--G.W.LEWIS,77 years of age,and well-known in
Humboldt,committed suicide by taking arsenic and strychnine late Monday
afternoon.From the best accounts to be had,Mr.LEWIS went into the waiting room
at the Union Passenger Station Monday and stepping over to one corner of the
room,drank the poison from a soda water bottle.Immediately following his
death,the body was taken to the home of Mr.George CHERRY and later removed to
the home of the deceased.Burial in Salem Cemetery.Survived by seven sons and
daughters.

her daughter,Mrs.Minton RIPLOGLE,at the Andrew FLATS.
CROCKETT COUNTY NEWS FROM ALAMO--Mrs.R.L.THOMPSON spent Friday in
Friendship with her brother,Ed BOLING.
--Henry THOMPSON and little daughter,Virginia,of Bells,visited his
mother,Mrs.M.A.THOMPSON Sunday afternoon.
--BORN to Mr.& Mrs.Hill BURNETT,on last Tuesday,a fine girl.
--Mrs.Burr HARWELL,Sr.,of Friendship,spent the weekend here with her
son,Burr HARWELL,Jr.,and Family.
UNION GROVE--Mr.& Mrs.Sammie Reeves,of Fruitland,are at the bedside of
their mother,Mrs.R.L.CRADDOCK,who has been seriously ill.
--Mr.& Mrs.Finis HOPPER spent Saturday night with their parents,Mr.&
Mrs.M.E.REASONS,near Fruitland.
--Miss Gracie Dean COX,accompanied by her neice,Miss Ola Mai CRADDOCK,of
Humboldt,spent the weekend with homefolks at Coxville.
--Mr.& Mrs.J.A.HEFLEY and children,of Jackson,spent Sunday with their
parents,Mr.& Mrs.Jim HEFLEY on Rt.#10.
--Mrs.Sula Camalia McLEARY GILLILAND,a highly esteemed and respected matron
formerly of this community,but now of Humboldt,now holds a position with the
drygoods firm of M.I.BAUM.
--Mr.Byron NETHERY and aunt,Miss Jennie JAMES,visited in the home of
Miss Alice LEWIS Sunday.
--Miss Orbyn CRADDOCK,teacher in Humboldt High School,spent the weekend
with her mother,Mrs.R.L.CRADDOCK.
NEWS FROM THE RECRUITING STATION-NOVEMBER 1,1920--Sergeant Lester
BENNETT of the Army recruiting service reports four men have been
accepted and assigned:
--Brown C.PERRY,of Route #8,Humboldt,who was sent to the 26th Infantry
at Fort Dix,N.J.
--Fenton FOWLER,of this city,who was enlisted for service in the
Infantry,on the Panama Canal.
--Calvin MORGAN,Route #4,Humboldt,who was sent to the 26th Infantry,Camp
Dix,N.J.
--Boyd E.McCORD,of Trenton,Route #2,who was accepted for one year
enlistment in the Coast Artillery Corps.
BELLS, R.F.D.#3--Mr.& Mrs.Dave MOODY visited their daughter in Dyer
County Sunday.
--O.L.HILL and family will leave in a few days for New Mexico,hoping to
better Mr.HILL’s health.
LOCAL HAPPENINGS IN AND ABOUT TOWN--Frank RUST came over from
Jackson and spent Sunday with his mother,Mrs.C.T.SHANE.
--G.S.LANNOM and son,Sharp,of Tullahoma,attended the WEST-LANNOM wedding
which occurred Saturday.
ITEMS OF INTEREST FROM GADSDEN--Frank & Clyde RICHARDSON have
returned from Nashville where they attended the trial of Mr.STAGNER,who
was acquitted of the charges against him.
--Mrs.Annie CASEY is the guest of her sister,Mrs.Ollie A.JONES,near
Humboldt.
--Charlie MILLER and wife of Roberts,were Sunday guests in the home of
Mrs.MILLER’s grandmother,Mrs.J.W.ROSAMON.
--Mrs.Tom ROSS was accompanied by her husband and Dr.R.O.WILLIAMS to
Memphis last Thursday,where she underwent a serious operation.Her
sister,Mrs.J.C.COX and Mrs.Jesse MILLIARD went to Memphis Friday to be with her.
COXVILLE ITEMS R.F.D.#10;CROCKETT COUNTY--Esq.T.P.HOPPER,who has
been on the puny list so long,is still very poorly.
--J.T.JAMES suffered a badly burned foot a few nights ago while replenshing
the fire in his sitting room.He is not able to be out.
--Mr.& Mrs.Jim CRADDOCK have a new comer in their home,mother and baby doing
well.
--Mr.George LEWIS,an aged citizen of Union Grove,was buried at Salem
Tuesday.He was an honest man and one of the best farmers we ever knrw.His
children,brother,sisters and other kindred have our profound sympathy.
SOCIETY--On October 30th,at noon,a wedding of much interest occurred,when Miss
Mary LANNOM,daughter of Mr.& Mrs.G.S.LANNOM,of this city,became the bride of
Mr.Joseph B.WEST,of Nashville,TN.
--Mrs.James HUTCHERSON entertained eighteen little ladies at her home October
30th,the occasion being the 5th birthday of her daughter,Helen Moss WARD.
--G.M.KEENAN and daughter,Evelyn,of Brownsville,anf Carl KEENAN,of
Mississippi,spent the weekend with their father,W.T.KEENAN.
--Mrs.Sallie WATKINS left Tuesday for Louisville,Ky.,where she will
spend the winter with her granddaughter,Mrs.Joe LOUGHMILLER.
--Mrs.A.J.JOHNSON,who has been visiting her mother,Mrs.J.B.CULLEN,will
leave Saturday for her home in Star City,Ark.
--Mrs.Mollie Morris of Ripley,is here,guest of her son,Wiley BENNETT and

Humboldt,spent Sunday with his sister,Miss Annie JONES.
--Mrs.R.C.ADAMS is visiting her son,Dr.Richard ADAMS and family in
Memphis this
week.
INTERESTING NEWS FROM GIBSON--Genette SCOTT,young daughter of Mr.& Mrs.Claude
SCOTT and Connie PILLOW,young daughter of Mr.& Mrs.John PILLOW,were both taken
to Crook’s Sanitarium at Jackson,where they were operated on for
appendicitis.They both stood the operation well and are on the road to
recovery.
--Miss Belle ATCHISON,one of our most prominent young ladies,and Mr.Ben
RABURN,of Tupelo,Miss.,drove to Jackson,Tenn.,Sunday and were married.She is
the daughter of S.J.ATCHISON.
--Rev.& Mrs.C.C.JORDAN were called from Conference at Mayfield,Ky.,last week
to Monet,Ark.,to the bedside of her brother,Mr.Chas.POWELL,who was struck by a
train and died from his injuries last Saturday.
--Rev.& Mrs.FREEMAN,of the U.S.A.Salvation Army,are here visiting her
brother,W.B.MANLEY and family.
WEEK’S DOINGS OF MEDINA PEOPLE--Mrs.F.M.RAINES returned from a visit at
Carbondale,IL and was accompanied home by her daughter,Mrs.Marvin E.WEST.
--Mrs.Roy TOOMS,of Clinton,Ky.,is visiting her parents,Mr.& Mrs.W.O.GRAVES.
--Mr.Fay ROWLETT,of Dallas,Texas,attended the funeral of his
brother,Brooks ROWLETT,Sunday and will remain with relatives and friends a few days.
--An impressive double funeral;that of Brooks ROWLETT,son of Mr.&
Mrs.D.B.ROWLETT;and Enlow McADOO,son of Mr.& Mrs.J.E.McADOO,two of
Medina’s soldier boys,who died in France,were held at the Methodist Church Sunday afternoon and was conducted by Revs.MOBLEY, CARMEN, GUY, FLEMMING, and
CRAWFORD.One of the largest gatherings ever assembled in Medina paid
homage and tribute to the fallen heroes.
--Dr.C.L.GILLESPIE attended the funeral of his uncle,Mr.John A.COLE,at
Fulton Thursday.
CROCKETT COUNTY NEWS FROM ALAMO--Mrs.Arthur Kelly and children,of
Jackson,were here guests of her mother,Mrs.Tommie AUSTIN.
--Mrs.Walter BLEDSOE and son,of Memphis are visiting her parents,Mr.&
Mrs.W.C.FLY.
--James KELLY and wife and Mrs.Clem HOWELL were called to Memphis last
week to attend the bedside of their son and brother,Ollie KELLY,who is ill at
the Presbyterian Hospital,with little hope entertained for his recovery.
--Friends & relatives here have received cards announcing the birth of a
daughter to Prof.& Mrs.Prentice RIDDICK of Birmingham,Ala.
--Mrs.COLTRAIN had as guests Sunday,her brother,W.A.SCOTT and wife of
Tigrett,and sister,Mrs.W.E.DAVIS and husband of Dyersburg.
--Lem PERMENTER and wife spent Sunday with their sister,Mrs.John CATES.
--Ezra WARREN and Mary EDWARDS were married the latter part of October
and are at home at the Warren Hotel.

ones,Bob ROSAMON is able to be out after a confinement for nearly three
months.
--C.E.BRANCH,of Maury City,was a pleasant visitor here Saturday.He left
here two years ago for Arkansas,but now lives in Crockett County.
--Mrs.J.F.YEARWOOD,of Alamo was here Saturday,accompanied by her
daughter,Mrs.Chas.PINKSTON and Mrs.Virgil PINKSTON,also of Alamo.
--Mrs.Mollie Porter MORRIS,of Ripley,is here visiting the family of her
brother,J.D.PORTER.
--Mrs.W.J.HALL and son,Charles,of Jackson,were week-end guests of her
brother J.B.DRINKARD.
--Circuit Court L.N.LEMOND and wife of Alamo,visited their son,Ernest
LEMOND and family Sunday.
--No happier man can be found than Dr.F.C.JAMES,and its all because it is a
“boy.” Mrs.JAMES and the baby are doing nicely,but we think the doctor will
never fully
recover!
--On last Tuesday,Mrs.Claude WILLIAMS gave birth to twins and since that time
her life has been despaired of.The infants,a boy and a girl,are both dead.Two
trained nurses,Miss Bertha WILLIAMS,of Jackson and another from Memphis,are in
attendence of Mrs.WILLIAMS,as also are three physicians,Drs.HARRIS, JAMES and HUNTER.
ANTIOCH AND BAKER’S CHAPEL--Mr.Willie TOOMS has returned to his home in
Dyer after an extended visit to his sister,Mrs.J.W.BAKER.
--Mrs.Pickens BINGHAM,of Henderson,is visiting her father,Mr.D.M.NOWELL.
--Rev.W.A.BAKER of Milan,visited his parentsd,Mr.& Mrs.J.W.BAKER last
week.
--Master Richard Booth GLOVER,of Norwood,spent Sunday with his
grandparents,Mr.& Mrs.R.M.DeBERRY.
IN LOVING MEMORY--Of William Sidney EAVES,departed this life one year
ago today,November 7th,1919.signed Mr.& Mrs.S.W.EAVES & Family.
SOCIETY--Last Thursday,November 4th,was an enjoyable day at the home of Mr.&
Mrs.W.T.KEENAN,three miles east of town.The occasion being in honor of
Mrs.RUST,the aged mother of Mrs.KEENAN,who was visiting in the home of her
daughter for several months.Three daughters;Mrs.Dora RUST,of Okla.;Mrs.Georgia
WORTHAM,of Memphis; Mrs.Grace PRICE,of Gibson; and one son,Bob RUST and family
of Milan,were present.About 25 grandchildren and great grandchildren were
there.Pictures were taken;one of which was of four generations;Mrs.RUST,
son,Robert,his daughter,Mrs.Katie Bell ROBERTS and her three months old son of
Memphis.
--On November 11th,Janice STRASBERG celebrated her 5th birthday.
--Mr.Thomas L.WELCH,of Bowling Green,Ky.,announces the marriage of his
daughter,Nell Edwards to William Coppedge ING,on Nov.9th in Louisville,Ky.Mr.ING was reared in Humboldt,is a brother of Luther ING and Miss Lula ING.
--Mr.& Mrs.Wm.G.SMYTHE,of Atwood,Tenn.,announce the approaching marriage
of their daughter,Rubye to Joseph Burns PARKER,of Bowling Green,Ky.,the son
of Mrs.Sallie Bell WALKER,of this city,late in November.
--Mr.& Mrs.J.Frank McDOWELL,of Memphis,announce the approaching marriage
of their daughter,Miss Robbie Lee WILLIAMS to Edwin M.QUINN on
Wednesday,November 17th at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

for New York City,where he was called because of the death of his
father.
--Bryan CLARK left Monday for Louisville,Ky.,where he will enter the
Louisville School of Pharmacy.
--Mr.George McLEARY was severly hurt by falling from a scafford while
working on the Humboldt Canning Co.’s new addition.
--Joe D.CHANDLER,of Memphis,spent several days with his parents,Mr.&
Mrs.J.R.CHANDLER.
COXVILLE ITEMS,R.F.D.#10;CROCKETT COUNTY--Mr.Joe BLEDSOE,an aged
citizen of Milan,Tenn.,but formerly of this county,was buried at Center
Church last Saturday.He leaves several grown children.

the U.S.NAVY,is home for a few days visit.He has been serving on the
Great Lakes but will soon be stationed in California.
--Miss Pearl BLACK returned Sunday from a visit with her
sister,Mrs.J.R.GEORGE in Gibson County.
--Mrs.H.W.REEVES spent the weekend with her sister,Mrs.Julia MASON near
Jackson.She was accompanied home by her son,Homer REEVES and baby
daughter,Katie Pearl.
--Mr.& Mrs.Irby ROSAMON and son,William,of Memphis,spent the weekend
with his mother,Mrs.J.W.ROSAMON.
--Mr.& Mrs.C.H.CLAXTON attended the funeral of her mother at Cumberland
City Saturday.

celebrated their Silver Wedding Anniversary.They were both reared in this

50TH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY--On last Sunday,November 21st,Mr.& Mrs.Alex MULLINS
celebrated their anniversary at their beautiful home near Humboldt.Enjoying
their hospitality were 5 children,6 brothers and sisters,21 grandchildren and
i great grandchild.Including relatives and friends,59 enjoyed the occasion.
DEATH--Miss.Mary ALVIS died Saturday at 4:30 a.m.at the home of Mr.&
Mrs.R.H.NELSON.The remains were laid to rest Sunday morning at the Old Gibson
Cemetery.She was 86 years of age and is survived by one sister,Mrs.Elizabeth
STALLINGS.
WEEK’S DOINGS OF MEDINA PEOPLE--The funeral service for Mrs.Newt BARNETT was
conducted Tuesday morning by Rev.FLEMMING of Martin.She was ill only a short
time,she leaves her husband,one son,and one daughter.
CROCKETT COUNTY NEWS FROM ALAMO--Mr.Willie WORRELL and family,of
Jackson,were at the bedside of their mother during her last hours.
--Mr.J.B.JONES and daughter,Miss Hazel,of Kingsland,Ark.,attended the
funeral of Mrs.WORRELL Monday.
--Adolphus COLTRAIN’s serious illness resulted in a bad case of smallpox
and as his mother was called to see him,she is quarantined for 30 days,much to the distress of her family.
--Mrs.Turner WORRELL,after a long illness,breathed her last Sunday about
3 p.m.Burial in Alamo Cemetery.

LOCAL HAPPENINGS IN AND ABOUT TOWN--Mr.J.N.MIDYETT,of Jackson,spent
Thursday in Humboldt.
--Donovan LONG left Wednesday for Jackson to visit his father,J.B.LONG.
--Dr.E.B.JOHNSON left Saturday night for Lebanon,Tenn.,to be at the
bedside of his father,who is seriously ill,having suffered a stroke of paralysis some time ago.
JACKSON,TENN.,NOVEMBER 22ND--James Green CARY,for a number of years a citizen
of this city,died at his home in Fairfield,Ala.,Thursday and his remains were
interred in that place Saturday.Col.R.L.BEARE,brother-in-law,attended the
services.He was about 60 years old.He was a resident of Humboldt a number of
years,his wife was an old Humboldt girl.

Herschel home for his first visit to his grandparents,Mr.&
Mrs.R.L.RAINES.
--Mrs.M.G.HARRIS,of Alamo,visited her daughter,Mrs.J.N.JACKSON.
--Mrs.Mary MILLARD,of Coxville,spent a few days last week with her
sister,Mrs.Rosa KENNER.She stopped here Friday and visited Mrs.Belle
JINNITTE.Miss Daisy MILLARD met her mother here.
SOCIETY--A wedding was quietly solemnized Thursday November 25th in the
parlors of Hotel Humboldt when Miss Lula May MILLER became the bride of John L.MURRAY.
--Miss Elizabeth LONG underwent an operation for removal of tonsils and adenoids at St.Joseph Hospital,Memphis Monday.She was accompanied by her
aunt,Miss Elizabeth DONOVAN.
--Mrs.O.L.BLAIR and granddaughter,Miss Rena JERRELL,are in New Orleans,guests of Messrs. E.B.& E.H.BLAIR.
--Miss Zelma LAMKIN,who has been visiting her sister,Mrs.Joe WILLIAMS,left for her home in Fulton,Ky.
