STATE OF TENNESSEE, DYER COUNTY
MARRIAGE LICENSE

"The world was sad; the garden was a wild;
And man, the hermit, sighed--till woman smiled."
TO ANY ONE LEGALLY AUTHORIZED TO SOLEMNIZE MARRIAGES:
     This is to authorize you to solemnize the RITE OF MATRIMONY between
          B. G. Wheeler          and          Hellen Alsup
of your County, agreeably to an Act of the General Assembly in such cases
made and provided: Provided, that there is no lawful cause to obstruct the
Marriage for which this License is desired; otherwise these shall be null
and void, and shall not be accounted any license or authority for you or
either of you for the purposes aforesaid, more than if the same had never
been prayed or granted.          Given under my hand at the Clerk's Office in
said County this 23 day of October, 1889.

Know all Men by these Presents:
That we, B. G. Wheeler and J. M. Burnes of County of Dyer and State of
Tennessee, are held and firmly bound unto the State of Tennessee, in the sum
of Twelve Hundred and Fifty Dollars, to which payment, well and truly to be
made, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors and administrators, and each
and every one of us, jointly and severally, by these presents.
          Witness our hands and seals this 23 day of October, 1889.

The Condition of the above Obligation is such, That whereas, the above
bounden B. G. Wheeler has this day prayed and obtained a License to marry
Hellen Alsup, Now if there is no lawful cause to obstruct said marriage and
for which license is desired, then this obligation to be void; otherwise, to
remain in full force and virtue in law.

Note: Benjamin Green Wheeler married 1. Helen M. (Hart) Peak 29 Dec 1885. Helen Alsup was the oldest daughter of Jesse T. Alsup and Sarah (Sally) A. Loines. Andrew Hart was Benjamin Wheeler's first wife's father.
