Jane Powell of said State and County, desiring to avail herself of the Pension allowed to Indigent Widows of Soldiers, under Act of General Assembly, approved April, 1905, being Chapter 202 of the Acts of 1905, hereby submits her proofs, and after begin duly sworn true answers to make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows:
1. What is your full name and where do you reside? (Give State, County and Postoffice.)
ANSWER: Jane Pate Powel Kenton Tenn
2. How long and since when have you been a resident of this State?
ANSWER: All of my life
3. When and where were you born and what was your maiden name?
ANSWER: Williamson County Tenn Jane Pate
4. When and where was your husband born -- state his full name, and when and where were you and he married, and who performed the marriage ceremony? (Attach certified copy marriage license in every case.)
ANSWER: Near Murry City James Augustus Powel Married by James Marr J.P. 15 May 1865 [Note from transcriber: Haywood Co. TN marriage records show that James A. Powell married Jane Pate, 16 May 1866]
5. When and where and in what Company and Regiment did you husband enlist or serve during the war between the States?

6. How long did your husband serve in said Company and Regiment?

I do further certify that before answering the foregoing questions, the applicant and said witnesses took the oath herein prescribed, and the full text of the affidavits was read to the applicant and witnesses before the same was signed and subscribed.

About January 1913 Mrs. Jane Powell, a widow, filed her application Number 4361 for Pinsion as the widow of a confederate soldier.
She is under the impression that the reason her name was not placed on the roll at that time was for the lack of funds and that since then the matter has been in some way overlooked.
Will you please advise me of the status of her application number 4361 and very much oblige.

The records show that J. H. Powell, name not found as John P. Powell, private and 2d sergeant, Company G, 27th Tennessee Infanty, Confederate States Army, was enrolled August 21, 1861. On the muster roll for March and April, 1864, last on file, he was reported present. No later record of him has been found.

Yours of the 12th to hand, and in reply will say that upon searching the records I find that the Licens in Marriage bond Book of that date has been torn out, and distroyed from the 7th day of January 1865 to May 16th 1865 therefore it is imposible to get a copy of said licens am very sory but it can't be helped. If I can do you any service in the matter let me here from you.
