I, Mrs. A. E. Lyon (widow &c) of said State and County, desiring to avail herself of the Pension allowed to Indigent Widows of Soldiers, under Act of General Assembly, approved April, 1905, being Chapter 202 of the Acts of 1905, hereby submits her proofs, and after begin duly sworn true answers to make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows:
1. What is your full name and where do you reside? (Give State, County and Postoffice.)
ANSWER: Almita E. Lyon, Alamo, Crockett County Tennessee
2. How long and since when have you been a resident of this State?
ANSWER: All my life
3. When and where were you born and what was your maiden name?
ANSWER: Sept. 30? 185-? near this place. It was then Haywood Co. Tenn. A. E. Vandyke
4. When and where was your husband born -- state his full name, and when and where were you and he married, and who performed the marriage ceremony? (Attach certified copy marriage license in every case.)
ANSWER: Sep 9? 1838 Cottage Grove Henry County Tennessee. We Married March 6 1868 near this place by Esq. Jim Moore. See marriage license attached
5. When and where and in what Company and Regiment did you husband enlist or serve during the war between the States?
ANSWER: He enlisted in Henry County. Co. D. 19 or 20 Tenn Cav.
6. How long did your husband serve in said Company and Regiment?
ANSWER: until close of the war 2 years or ---
7. When and where did your husband's Company and Regiment surrender?
ANSWER: Jackson Tenn I think
8. Was your husband present at the time and place when his Company and Regiment surrendered?
ANSWER: I think so
9. If not with his command at surrender state clearly and specifically where he was when he left command, for what cause and by what authority?

10. When and where did your husband die?
ANSWER: In or near Cairo Tenn June 4, 1902
11. At the time of your husband's death, were you living with him as his lawful wife?

ANSWER: Mrs. Cora Darden age 34 years. H. R. Lyon age 25 years. Thos D. 17 years, -- Girl? ---- twin & the said Twins died in infancy
13. What property, real or personal, or income do you have or possess, and its gross value?
ANSWER: Life estate in 42 1/2 acres, Value $200, some house hold kitchen furniture horse and 4 hogs, all worth about $100.
14. What property, real or personal, did you possess at death of husband or did he leave you, and what disposition, if any, by sale or gift, have you made of the same?
ANSWER: About the same as ----, none sold or given away
15. Have you a family? If so, who composes such family? Give their means of support? Have they any lands or other property?
ANSWER: Myself and son Thomas constitutes my family, the other 2 children are married and have families

ANSWER: At Selma Ala but my company was at Jackson Tenn on Special duty at the Surrender

The name J. R. Lyon has not been found on the rolls, on file in this Department, of the 19th and 20th Consolidated Regiment, Tennessee Cavalry, Confederate States Army; nor has any record been found of the capture or parole of a man of that name and organization.

In the case of Mrs. Lyon widow of J. R. Lyon deceased James B. Lyon aged 51 years a resident of Crockett -- Tennessee at Maury City after being duly sworn dep---- as follows:
He was acquainted with J. R. Lyon known as Dick deceased all his life time. He was married to Miss A. E. Vandyke on or about ------------ in what is now Crockett County Tennessee, that he was at the marriage by Esq. Jim Moore, that said J. R. Lyon died June 1902 in said Crockett County that he and this applicant Mrs. Lyon were? living together as man and wife at the time of his death.
That she has not remarried since his death.
That he knows from reputation? and having said J. R. Lyon say that he served

That the said Widow Mrs. A. E. Lyon is a lady of good moral character, is f--- fi-----? and is living on a ---- place where her husband died.

Miss Fannie Lyon aged 75 residing at Maury City Tennessee States on oath in --lation to the claim for pension of Mrs. A. E. Lyon widow of J. R. Lyon do ----.
That she is a sister of the deceased J. R. Lyon and of c---- knows him since all his life time that said Lyon was a Confederate soldier during the war between the states that he was a member of Co. D. 20th Tenn Cav. in Captain F. H. Tayloes Company, think? he ---- out in the army some time in the year 1863, and staid till the war closed, is the best of her recolection.
That said soldier J. R. Lyon came home on furlough sick some time in February 1865 and went back and staid till the surrender.
He had a skin disease and it disabled him at times, and he finally

died of that trouble? near Cairo, Tennessee in Crockett County, in June 1902.
She further states that he has known Mrs. A. E. Lyon his widow from since before they married, that she was Miss Vandyke before they married, that she is now living on the little place he died at and she is still his widow and never married any more, and they were living together as man and wife when he died.
She Mrs. Lyon has ---- son, and one daughter living, one single son living with her, the others are married. She is poor and of a good character and I think a good Christian woman.
She further states that she has no interest in the p---- of this claim.

Came before me a Notary Public for said County D. J. Bowden and made oath in relation to the claim of Mrs. A. E. Lyons widow of J. R. Lyons deceased, for pension, under the Laws of the State of Tennessee.
I knew J. R. Lyons deceased quite well, knew him almost through life. He was in Co. D. 20th or 21st Tennessee Cavalry, under General Forest in Capt. T. H. Taylor Company ----- Absent two years as best I can remember, the latter part of the war, and as far as I knew made good soldier. I was in same Regiment & Company with him latter part of the war, the first part of the war I was in Co. H. 5th Tennessee Infantry. Personally I do not know Mrs. Lyon, but I am fully satisfied she is now J. R. Lyons widow and is entittled to a Pension.
I was Born in Henry County Tennessee January 15th 1843, and now reside at Martin Tenn, and have no Interest in ---tion of said claim.
