Mary Eliza Hays of said State and County, desiring to avail herself of the Pension allowed to Indigent Widows of Soldiers, under Act of General Assembly, approved April, 1905, being Chapter 202 of the Acts of 1905; Chapter 103, Acts of 1909; and Chapter 7, Acts of 1911, hereby submits her proofs, and after begin duly sworn true answers to make to the following questions, deposes and answers as follows:

1. What is your full name and where do you reside? (Give State, County and Postoffice.)

2. How long and since when have you been a resident of this State?

3. When and where were you born and what was your maiden name?

Mrs. Mary E. Hayse was married Aug. 10 1867. Married at Johnsons Grove Tenn this county Crockett, was then Haywood County Brownsville the County seat.

I have known W. L. Hayse and wife Mary E. Hayse his wife for at least 40 years. I know she was his lawful wife lived together as man & wife until his Death. She has no way proving her marriage as it has been nearly 60 years. All the people then is now dead.

The records show that William S. Hayes, private, Company H, 19th Alabama Infantry, C.S.A., enlisted August 14, 1861, at Centre, Alabaman, for the war. On the roll for the period from August 17 to October 31, 1861 (first roll on file), he was reported present sick in quarters. His name is not borne on the roll for January and February, 1864 (only other roll on file). A return for June, 1862, shows him, "Transferred June 21, 1862, at Tupelo Miss."

On a muster roll of officers and men paroled in accordance with the terms of a military convention entered into April 26, 1865, he is reported, as of Company I, 19th Alabama, C.S.A. paroled May 2, 1865, at Salisbury, North Carolina.

His name has not been found on the roll of Company I, 19th Alabama C.S.A., for August 17 to October 31, 1861 (only roll on file).
