Spanish Grove early settlers were Edwards, Thompson Butler,
Jimmy Jones, James and Thomas McAuley and Joshua Butler.
They established a school in 1879, one room, stick and dirt
chimney with one window with wooden shutters and seats
from split logs.
The name Spanish Grove was derived from large oak trees
growing on the site of the school. Around 1915, an extra room
was added for the 80 students. Phillip T. Butler gave the land for
the school.
About 50 boys from the school have served their
country from Europe to the Pacific. Everyone returned without
being seriously injured. The school is now a long room with the
little room connected making a stage for presenting plays. It is
used as a community center and the Home Demonstration and Community Clubs meet
here.
