Pond Branch, Antioch and Blount Creek were heavily populated in the 1830's.
A surveyor named Bobbitt received a grant from the government and constructed a
pond between the Pond Branch and the Sandy River known as Bobbitt's Pond
south of the Pond Branch bridge.
Blount's Creek was named for Issac Blount who had the first grist mill in
Carroll County. There was also a water powered grist mill owned by Ryley
Robinson. His son-in-law Cullie Nolan also operated a sorghum mill and a potato
house. Martin Bowers had a saw mill, he was also a member of the state legislature
1900/1902. Buck Butler had a store with a post office and black smith shop called
"Muse Store."
The children attended school at Antioch Methodist Church until 1860
when John F. Bowers gave land for a school more conveniently located known as
Pond Branch School.
