Long Rock originated from a huge boulder about four miles north of Huntingdon on the Browning Highway.  During the reign of the "Rock" it was a meeting place for the school children but time has eroded the rock.  The story was that on a beautiful day, the rock was covered with children.  The children worked their way through school and up the higher end of the rock.  Long Rock Methodist Church was organized in 1885 and has been a central force in the community.  The early school was consolidated with Cannon School in 1953.  The post office was established May 5, 1899 and discontinued in 1903.  Walter C. Pugh and Willie B. Moore were postmasters.
